Happy Tuesday Friends ~
I know I'm a day late again. Sigh. But yesterday was a busy one with dentist stuff for Annie, helping my Mom with laundry and thanksgiving grocery shopping. But I thought I might as well pop in to say a quick hello and so I could wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃 😊
I also wanted to share that sadly Tilly ended up not being a good fit for our family. It's such a bummer! She's the cutest puppy ever. But Aaron and I had definite allergy issues to her and Ruby was not adjusting well. It was getting to the point where Ruby wouldn't even come back into the house when I would let her out. It was breaking my heart. The silver lining is that Annie's BFF's family took her. So we still get to visit her and watch her grow up. 🐶 💕
THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS:
ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE THIS MORNING
yogurt, coffee with amaretto cream
HOW I AM FEELING THIS MORNING:
I'm feeling like I'm trying to get in the holiday spirit, even though the world feels so weird. The kiddos are around their Dad, obviously, and he's in a work environment. With numbers so bad in our area I don't feel good about having my Mom over for thanksgiving. Even helping her the other day I wore a mask and stayed distanced from her. So we'll drop off food and then facetime to enjoy with her. My Dad and step Mom live in AZ in the winter so I'll call and chat with them. My SIL works thanksgiving (she's an RN) so my Bro and SIL will safely pop over Friday to say hello and so I can hand them off some food too. 😍 ♥️
ON MY MIND:
Thinking about the Christmas shopping I've done and more yet to do. A lot online this year. And planning to decorate after thanksgiving so I want to shampoo carpets and clean really well the end of the week.
AS I LOOK AROUND THE HOUSE
I still see Thanksgiving decorations. And it looks so cozy with the big snowflakes flying around outside. It's smelling like thanksgiving as I have these roasting in the oven right now:
I roast turkey wings in the oven for a few hours. I'll then throw them in slow cooker with water to simmer all day. I strain it and then use that amazing stock for make ahead gravy and soup for the leftovers after the holiday. Yum! 😋
Becoming Mrs. Lewis by Patti Callahan. It's all about the relationship between C.S. Lewis and Joy Davidman - the woman that would become his wife. I was so tired from puppy I hadn't been reading. But back to it now and it's so good!
ON THE TV TODAY:
HGTV shows, holiday baking shows, American Housewife, Greys Anatomy, The Spanish Queen, The Good Doctor, Mad Men, Great British Baking Show, The Undoing, The Bachelorette, The Crown, Hallmark movies
ON THE MENU THIS WEEK:
MONDAY - pasties with meat, potato & rutabaga filling
TUESDAY - tomato soup, garlic cheddar biscuits, fruit
WEDNESDAY - turkey sandwiches as I have a turkey and a turkey breast this year and the breast will be ready already, salad
THURSDAY - turkey, mashed potatoes & gravy, homemade dressing, broccoli salad, fruit salad, cranberries, dinner rolls, cheese slices & crudite, homemade pumpkin pie with whipped cream, custard spiced pear bars with a macadamia nut crust
FRIDAY - turkey rice soup (will freeze some) and for the weekend I will make turkey tetrazzini with gb & salad
TO RELAX THIS WEEK I WILL:
maybe take first bubble bath of the season, read under fleecy blanket, chat with my bf and plan his next visit, plan out Christmas decorating, do some fun shopping online
FROM THE CAMERA:
We've had some pretty twilights with such pretty moon rises. And now getting covered back up in a world of white. I haven't decorated for Christmas yet, but I did put some candles in the front windows for extra glow
These pics of my Mom's duplex came up on my FB memories the other day. This is a tree she put up several years ago (she doesn't do a big tree anymore). She wanted pretty blue to go with her white tree and let me decorate it. I remember loving how this turned out. I kept it very botanical and got a leafy garland and did bulbs and bird decorations and hydrangea decorations that I made. All with soft pastel Christmas lights. And then pointsettias as toppers. It was so pretty.
An Aunt of mine felt badly for how extended family couldn't be together and sent this same puzzle to a bunch of us family members that like puzzles and started a thread in texting. So we've been teasing each other and "competing" and trash talking and having wonderful conversations as a way to stay connected this week. I thought it was such a cool idea. Annie jumped in right away.
This is a wonderful hot toddy mix local to the northern part of WI that only comes out at the holidays and it's SO good. Warms the soul. It's a sweet vanilla like batter that you can add rum, brandy or both to for alcohol version. You then pour boiling water over and stir up the batter and it makes a froth on top. You sprinkle nutmeg, sip and enjoy the feeling of the holidays. My kiddos love the non alcohol version, of course. I had a bit of brandy with mine 😉
Still all things Fall and thankful decorations here, but getting excited about putting up Christmas next weekend!
I pray for an end to this virus. For peace, healing and unity in our world. I pray for anyone sick, suffering, isolated, and afraid - for their peace and comfort. Please Lord give strength to those fighting the virus on the frontlines. 🙏
