Happy Homemaker Monday

Hello Friends and how is this fine Monday treating you?

I hope it's treating you well so far. I'm already working to get my ducks in a row for the busy Thanksgiving week ahead! For my American friends - how are your plans shaping up for this holiday? It's such a fun one for me as it's low stress because my BIL and SIL host (we do Christmas day).  My FIL & MIL and my Mom comes too. A lot of my SIL's family come as well. What's also low stress is I don't make the big turkey... although I do make several of the dishes. I love watching the Macy's parade in the morning with my crew and I'll make a special breakfast that will include cinnamon rolls or a butter braid with fruit. Then we head over in the afternoon for lots of good eating and watching football. I love the time after the meal when all of us Gals clean up and gab and talk about black Friday deals. my SIL and I go over Christmas lists for what to buy our kiddos while we munch some yummy desserts. So grateful for blessings and such a perfect day for being thankful!!

And how was your weekend? We had a great one here. Hubby, Annie and I were gone for her hockey tourney. Aaron had scrimmages here so he stayed back at home. Annie is on a different team this year, but they asked Addie to be the coach so she's got Coach Daddy again. She loves that, so it's a good thing. ;)  We got a little bit of holiday shopping in at The Mall of America...and hubby humored me with a trip to Ikea as I've always wanted to see what it's like (& it's right next to the mall). It wasn't at all what I had pictured - kind of overwhelming. But I can see how it's great for those needing affordable things with lots of selection.  Now on to this busy week ~

THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS:

Cloudy and gray today but it's supposed to get up into the 40's - which feels balmy here. It's going to get colder the rest of the week though, in the 20's and low 30's (which I like a cold Thanksgiving for all that baking). And then maybe warm again Friday with rain.

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE THIS MORNING:

A cup of easy oatmeal  - cherry chia pumpkin seed flavor (from Trader Joe's) with a pinch of brown sugar and some milk on top.  And a cup of coffee of course ;)

RIGHT NOW I AM:

Yep, you guessed it. Listening to Christmas music (hee hee). And working on my planner and just finished devotional and journal time.

AS I LOOK OUTSIDE MY WINDOW:

It's gray and the trees are all bare on our back hill over the bay (except the evergreens of course). The bay still has  slight layer of ice over the top. No snow currently but it definitely looks like late November

AS I LOOK AROUND THE HOUSE:

Fairly tidy considering our dear son (aka the teenager), was here all weekend and had hockey buddies stay overnight. I don't have too much work cut out for me which is nice. Of course my wonderful Mumsy popped in a lot over the weekend too and did extras like filling our humidifier, giving Ruby extra love, and loading dishes. God bless her. I sure love that Lady. What would we do without our Mom's??

ON TODAY'S (& this week's) TO DO LIST:

Lots of Thanksgiving prep! Groceries, errands, start prepping and doing some cooking and baking on Wednesday. MIL time. Food to FIL. Hockey practices. Grandparent day at my kiddos school (nice for my Mom). Helping my Mom with some of her errands. No religious ed this week for the break. My kiddos are off a lot this week - they only go 1/2 day Wednesday and don't go back to school until next Tuesday

CURRENTLY READING:

More Louise Penney series

ON THE TV TODAY:

Dancing with the Stars, Gold Rush, Cooking shows, Survivor, The Good Doctor, This is Us, Outlander, Greys Anatomy, Holiday Baking Championship, some movies taped for Hubby & I to watch on our date nights at home

ON THE MENU THIS WEEK:

MONDAY: pizza leftovers from last night, breadsticks too, veggies & dip

TUESDAY: easy meal to cover tonight and tomorrow too  -either chili and cornbread or tacos

WEDNESDAY: if I make tacos then with leftovers I'll make taco roll-ups with pizza dough with the leftovers

THURSDAY: turkey goodness! Along with turkey our meal will include: mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy, sweet potatoes, corn, broccoli salad, calico beans, homemade cranberry sauce, fruit salad, veggie and relish tray, yummy special dinner rolls my SIL makes, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, ice cream, and other desserts

*out of this list I make homemade stuffing (cut up and toast varieties of bread myself etc) I've been told I"m never allowed to come to thanksgiving without it and I make 2 pans. Lol I also do the broccoli salad, calico beans, and homemade cranberry sauces. I also make PW's homemade pecan pie recipe - crust and all from scratch. So yummy!

**I think new additions this year are that my SIL is making slow cooker mac & cheese for the kiddos that are fussier. And Thanksgiving happens to be on my sweet Hubby's birthhday this year so I'm going to make a boston cream cake as it's one of his faves.

FRIDAY: I get some of the turkey bones etc from my SIL and I make a bone broth with them for homemade turkey noodle or turkey rice soup - and I love it even better than chicken noodle broth. It's so good! Plus our family's favorite turkey melt sandwiches I make every year with the leftovers. Let's face it folks - the leftovers are really the best part.

Did I mention I'm throwing in extra workouts this week???

Fun at the Mall of America (check out the size of the lego dude next to the people on the right)

When we got home yesterday I took my Ruby for a nice brisk sunset walk. It was chilly out there! Our bay is even beautiful when it's bare and covered with ice

What our northwoods will be looking like daily very soon

  1. Did I understand right, you've never been to Ikea? It is a bit overwhelming, I agree. Can be a fun place though. Save me some broccoli salad and cranberry sauce, YUM. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving and a great week!

  2. I haven't been to Ikea for years - need to go back!
I like your selfie walking Ruby. Very pretty!
My birthday is one day after your hubby's. I was born on Thanksgiving, but this year it falls on Friday.

  3. I've only been to Ikea twice, and I agree, it is certainly overwhelming. You kind of get herded like cattle! Cinnamon rolls for breakfast on Thanksgiving sounds nice....Happy Birthday to your Hubs and Happy Thanksgiving! Love the photos and the cute selfie. Hugs xo Karen

  5. I am running so, so late this week visiting everyone! I hope you had a fantastic Thanksgiving with family and friends.

IKEA is like another world. My spice cabinets came from there and I love them, but unless I have a whole day to kill, I stay away from there.

I have to try your life hack - I've been using GOOP the automotive hand cleaner for bad stains like ink and that works too.

    Have a great weekend.
