Some vintage pics, an update, and 30 days of summer: pinterest fun

Hello Friends ~

Happy weekend to you. It's busy days in these northwoods...but in lots of fun ways too. We have some relatives coming in town to visit today and are here for the weekend. I have a friend coming in from California the next week - and in between it looks like Annie's team may go to state for soccer!  So first of all an update:  I plan to take a bit of a break due to such a busy schedule these next few weeks. So I will be back probably in 2 weeks...maybe 3.

Next, I just wanted to share that yesterday would have been my paternal grandparents' 75th wedding anniversary. I know they celebrated in heaven. But I had some neat old pics of their wedding I shared on my instagram yesterday, and for those of you that don't follow me there I thought I'd share some here:

I just love old photos, don't you? I was really close with my grandparents. Although my grandpa died when I was only 9 years old. My Gram, however, lived to be almost 93. My daughter Annie is named after here (as their names were Steve and Anne).  Just thought you vintage lovers might enjoy them too so thanks for letting me share ;)

Now for some pinterest fun! I just wanted to share that I have a pinterest board titled "summer" and you can find it here.  In it you can find some things like

These savory Strawberry Tea Sandwiches are a wonderful addition to afternoon tea or a light weekend luncheon.

30 Days of Summer: Berries

Hello Friends ~

Well life took over but finally here to share more in the 30 Days of Summer posts. I had started one earlier in the week related to fun summer treats - which I will share in the future.  But today I wanted to share about berries. Strawberries in particular for this post....but berries are a true favorite for me in general this time of year. I love that they come in season along with many other wonderful summer fruits.

My grandparents had a beautiful home on a lake with acres of land when I was growing up. My Grandma lived there for many years after my Grandpa died too. And they always had tons of raspberry bushes. I have such wonderful memories of picking raspberries every summer when I was a kid. And my Gram always made homemade jam and desserts with them. I would say they are my favorite berry for that reason. But in 2nd place are strawberries. The truly wonderful wild ones or from a farm where you can pick them- where they are smaller and nothing like the ones from the grocery store. They are sweet as candy and make the best jam and desserts too!

I didn't hand pick these, but picked them up from a farm that brought bushels of them to the city

So what did do with these beauties? Well I had to make some easy refrigerator jam and a pie of course!  ;)

That night I had made hashbrown crust breakfast pizza and so we of course had some toast with homemade jam to go along with it!  I shared the recipes for all of these dishes on my instagram and I'll share them all here:

Hope you enjoy!! I'm sharing this Jean of Sonotorganized blog and Rebecca of Rebecca's Hearth and Home blog for

30 Days of Summer: Walks by the Bay

Hi Friends!

Today I'm sharing a post to link up with my blogging friends Jean and Rebecca.  This blogging series is about sharing some of your favorite things about summer. It will be running through to  September - so just know if you'd like to join the fun you don't need to do a post or link everyday for 30 days in a row. Just when it works for throughout the summer.  I'm hoping to join in a couple of times each week! You can read more about it all here.

But for my first day joining up I wanted to share one of my favorite things about summer - which is to go walking with my Ruby (if  you haven't figured that out already) :P  I just love it here on the bay - but it's especially beautiful in summertime. We have roads out in my neighborhood that go next to the bay - and then I also like to go to a lovely city park close by our house as well. The park runs along the bay as well.  And all the little bays in my area flow into big beautiful Lake Superior.

Here's a shot of the bay I took the other day on one of our walks.

I love to listen to music when I walk. Either something soft and calming. Or something with a good beat to get me to step up my walk a bit. ;)  I love that in the summer, as I walk, I can smell the different flowers in bloom. Throughout these next months I will see lilacs, wild lupine, bridal veil like spirea shrubs, buttercups, Indian paintbrush, honeysuckle,  Queen Anne's lace .... I love them all and will often pick wildflower bouquets to bring home and put in water in my kitchen window.

These shots are from today's walk and I captured this butterfly on a bunch of wild daisies. True picture of summer, don't ya think?   Happy first day of summer to you Friends  xo

Won't you join in the fun and share some of your summer favorites too? I'm linking this post at 30 Days of Summer that you can find here and here.
