SPRING HICCUP

slushy snow on the firepit

Yep, it was one of these kinds of days in our northwoods. Spring took a break and in came freezing rain/sleet/snow. Yuck!  One perk: the kids have loved having a free day as they canceled school. So that could only mean one thing - TREAT BREAKFAST of waffles and cherry topping! Yippeee!

Happy Homemaker Monday

Happy Monday to you Friends ~

I hope you are feeling ready to jump into this week!  We had a nice weekend here and had such beautiful weather on Saturday! Around 70 degrees!! And it happened to be my son's first prom too. ;)

He looked so handsome and his girlfriend looked so pretty. They truly are an adorable couple. They're both only sophomores and many of the friends from their "group" did not go to prom this year. So they said they just wanted to do a dinner before hand together here, as they were doing photos in our backyard before the dance anyway. My son even asked if I'd make something for them, so they could still have something nice to eat. I found it all really sweet and gladly made them a fun meal and dessert. His GF's Mom & sister came over before the dinner and we all took photos of them all dressed up first.  Then they changed back into regular clothes to enjoy their pasta meal -  very smart to keep those dressy clothes nice and clean. Lol! A truly special chapter & memory for this Mom to keep in the scrapbook of her heart.

THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS:

Cloudy and the sun is trying to peek out once in a while. It's windy and cold (in the 40's). Only going to be in the 40's and low 50's all week and some chances of rain and even rain/snow mix. We had that this past Sunday too! It was near 70 on Saturday and on Sunday cold with some flurries. Typical crazy northwoods  Spring weather!

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE THIS MORNING:

Toast with avocado on top. Coffee with coconut creamer.

RIGHT NOW I AM:

Just enjoying the silence this morning. Such a rare thing around here sometimes.

AS I LOOK OUTSIDE MY WINDOW:

Clouds are moving in again and it's more gray now. The trees are swaying in the wind and the bay is rippling with the breezes.

AS I LOOK AROUND THE HOUSE:

Pretty clean from the weekend because, as I mentioned, we had the company of my son's GF family over for the photos. They were so nice and they even enjoyed a little home tour. ;) I don't think my son's room looked that clean in long time.  Amazing the effect a GF can have on a dude! Lol Of course I'm still chugging away at laundry - my regular weekly chore that NEVER ends. ::sigh::

ON TODAY'S (& this week's) TO DO LIST:

Lots of the usual. Home chores, run errands, work on projects, visit my MIL, kiddo sports (both kids' soccer, daughter's hockey and volleyball).

CURRENTLY READING:

I keep bouncing back and forth between several books - if I actually focus on something I'll let  you know :P Lol! Also, magazines as usual.

ON THE TV TODAY:

I caught up on some cooking shows. I also watched a Hallmark movie I had taped. We watched Billions & Survivor. I watched The White Princess, but need to catch up on Call the Midwife.

ON THE MENU THIS WEEK:

MONDAY: going to make it feel like Spring BBQ menu: grilled burgers, baked beans, kettle chips, fruit, veggies & dip, corn on the cob (frozen)

TUESDAY: chicken apple sausage sliced up (healthier than polish sausage we often have and still very flavorful) with veggies including: red potatoes, broccoli, green beans, red pepper, onion - all tossed with olive oil and herbs as a sheet pan meal

WEDNESDAY: Blue Apron back this week. BA meal: Spiced beef pita and garlic lebneh with arugula and date salad (kind of like a beef gyros)

THURSDAY: breakfast for dinner: eggs, waffles with fruit topping, sausage and breakfast potatoes, extra mixed fruit (Annie help night)

FRIDAY: Taiwanese-style chicken with jasmine rice, crispy shallots, and cilantro (Blue Apron meal)

**other Blue Apron meal this week we'll eat on the weekend: spicy tomato and olive pasta with lemon ricotta and roasted broccoli side dish

WHAT I AM CREATING AT THE MOMENT

Etsy store albums and canvases

Legacy box stuff

My Grandpa's heritage album

My Mom's album & my family album catch up

(this is my continuing list)

NEW RECIPE I WANT TO TRY THIS WEEK:

Sheet pan meal will be a new one. Plus, I made an easy turkey slider recipe this past weekend that was SO yummy and I'll share soon.

TIP OF THE WEEK:

Get our book: https://goo.gl/tl5xre
I agree with this and that most servers work
hard for their tips...so I always try to be a great tipper!

FROM THE CAMERA:
Of course I had to share some prom pics! My handsome Boy. ;)

Aren't they the cutest couple??

Enjoying their meal and toasting to their night! I did leave them alone after this and let them just enjoy each other's company. ;)  The menu was: lasagna pasta dish, garlic texas toast, caesar salad - and for dessert caramel swirl brownie sundaes.

Prom Saturday was gorgeous and then Sunday brought this: snowglobe looking weather. Mother Nature needs to check into rehab or start taking her happy pills.
 :P

It's so much nicer when it's lovely out and Ruby and I can soak up some rays!

PS: Annie went on the hunt for the elusive Starbucks Unicorn drink - and was unsuccessful. She had to settle for a Pokemon Go drink instead and a mini vanilla bean scone. ;)

Upcycled Key Jewelry

Hello and Happy Friday Friends! It's a beautiful day in the northwoods with the sun shining on the bay. And it looks to be a promising weekend too! Before I go run errands I wanted to share more about the key jewelry I've been working on and show you some of them.

I found a bag of old hotel keys (remember the days when you actually had to carry around a big key??) and I cleaned them up knowing I wanted to upcycle them in some way. I started playing around with some paper crafting materials, lace, fabric etc that I had lying around.

And using some modgepodge and some jewelry glue - I went to my creative happy place and several necklaces have now emerged. ;) I liked doing layering of different kinds of materials on top of each other.  A lace backdrop with a paper crafting word.  Bits of fabric with bird stickers in front.  Whatever seemed to work with the materials I was choosing at the time. I love that when creating something new there is no right or wrong - just doing and imagination.  I attached some different colors of cording to make them a necklace and voila.  Here are some that I'd like to show you.

I love how this one looks like the little yellow bird and flowers on the left are in front of a forest made from lace.

Here are more I'd like to share. These next few seem especially Spring-like and Summer-like to me.

You can never go wrong with polka dots and flowers, right??

Little chickadee over some fabric.

Pretty as a summer wish.

I love that not only are these keys being reused and not gone to waste in the garbage, but I think they make some really funky and unique jewelry! It is my hope and plan to have my own Etsy store up and running next month. I will keep you posted on details when things are all set up.

Stay cool Friends xoxo

Easter Leftovers = Yummy Recipe

Hello Friends and Happy Thursday to you! Today I thought I'd share something that I recently shared on instagram. It's a recipe for easy slow cooker ham and scalloped potatoes. It's actually one of the first recipes I shared when I first started my blog. You can read that post by clicking here if you like. ;)

assembling the ingredients and the final result below:

It's one of our favorite ways to eat up the leftover ham from Easter (or Christmas too). It is SO flavorful and comforting and a nice break from ham sandwiches. :P Here's the recipe as I posted it on instagram:

Happy Homemaker Monday

Good Morning Dear Friends!

Finally taking a minute to sit down and work on this post. We had a wonderfully blessed holiday weekend, but I'm playing catch up around my home this AM. Plus, I have a sick kiddo at home too. I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend as well!

In the morning we attended mass, along with my Mom.  We had my Mom and my MIL & FIL over in the afternoon for dinner.  We'll be doing a belated Easter with my Dad and step Mom during the week. I forgot to take pics of the family around the table and just sat and enjoyed the meal.  But I was able to remember to take some pics of the table set up the night before. And we took some family photos after church. We had such a lovely day! Then last night I got some rest time after a first round of dishes loaded and snuggled with Ruby and watched an old movie (love those!) of Easter Parade with Judy Garland and Fred Astaire. I was in my pj's early and it was another great holiday in the books!

THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS:

Gray and cold. Blech! Tomorrow looks like rain. And rest of the week only 40's and low 50's. However next weekend so far looks great with each day near the 60's and sunny! Let's hope!!

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE THIS MORNING:

A piece of toast with lemon curd on top. Part of a banana and some coffee.

RIGHT NOW I AM:

I'm listening to some Praise & Worship music along with nature sounds of birds singing. ;)

AS I LOOK OUTSIDE MY WINDOW:

Icky, gray and was sprinkling earlier. Our back yard is sure getting nice and green though!! Haven't spotted any bunnies and no birds on the bird feeder yet this moring. Maybe everyone is sleeping in today?

AS I LOOK AROUND THE HOUSE:

I've done 2 loads of dishes so far and have one load left. Holidays are so worth it, though, and I love cooking and baking for my family! And my Hubby actually did the 2nd load for me. ;) I have laundry going and lots more to catch up. My kiddos did some deep cleaning in their rooms over the weekend and lots more laundry "materialized". ::sigh:: Everything else still pretty  clean from getting ready for Sunday dinner over here.  And I tidied up a bit this morning too.

ON TODAY'S (& this week's) TO DO LIST:

Things on my list this week include: both kiddos' soccer, Annie volleyball, hubby's hockey stuff, taking my Mom to her eye appointment, projects on my list, running errands, determined to work on my legacy box and start my Grandpa's album work.

CURRENTLY READING:

I keep bouncing back and forth between several books - if I actually focus on something I'll let  you know :P Lol! Also, magazines as usual.

ON THE TV TODAY:

I did watch Call the Midwife last night. So good! I'm excited as it's Disney night on Dancing with the Stars - love that one!! I have a new show to watch: The White Princess. I watched The White Queen series several years ago and liked it. It's about the Tudor period in England - the War of the Roses and all of that history. It's basically how the women were the ones really running the show (of course) to have the power in Europe. Like a soap opera and lots of fun! The White Princess starts where that series left off. I have the first one taped and haven't watched it yet. Some cooking shows catch up yet too. I love watching the RV shows - where they show the awesome blinged out RV's and folks looking to buy them. I dream sometimes about a life one day like my dear Friend Doreen. (winking at you Lady) ;)

ON THE MENU THIS WEEK:

MONDAY: break from Easter leftovers and doing parmesan chicken, pasta and veggie side dish

TUESDAY: ham and scalloped potatoes in the slow cooker (using up leftover Easter ham)

WEDNESDAY: no Blue Apron this week either - will start back next week. Out this night with my Dad & step Mom

THURSDAY: stuffed pork chops, baked potatoes, salad

FRIDAY: Annie night? not sure yet

WHAT I AM CREATING AT THE MOMENT

Etsy store albums and canvases

Legacy box stuff

My Grandpa's heritage album

My Mom's album & my family album catch up

NEW RECIPE I WANT TO TRY THIS WEEK:

Not sure - maybe something new on Annie's cook night

TIP OF THE WEEK:

FROM THE CAMERA:

Annie and I set the table all up Easter Eve.

A random shot of the fruit pizzas Annie made for yesterday.

Traditional after mass Easter photos.

I'm not this short - Lol! I'm bending over a bit behind my Girl. ;)

Family totem pole? They always have to ham it up!

Rare shot of the elusive teenager that hates getting his picture taken! :P

After all the festivities - it's time to rest, right Ruby?

Maybe a fun old movie??

"Oh sure Mom, I love this one!"
