Upcycled Key Jewelry

Hello and Happy Friday Friends! It's a beautiful day in the northwoods with the sun shining on the bay. And it looks to be a promising weekend too! Before I go run errands I wanted to share more about the key jewelry I've been working on and show you some of them. 

I found a bag of old hotel keys (remember the days when you actually had to carry around a big key??) and I cleaned them up knowing I wanted to upcycle them in some way. I started playing around with some paper crafting materials, lace, fabric etc that I had lying around. 

And using some modgepodge and some jewelry glue - I went to my creative happy place and several necklaces have now emerged. ;) I liked doing layering of different kinds of materials on top of each other.  A lace backdrop with a paper crafting word.  Bits of fabric with bird stickers in front.  Whatever seemed to work with the materials I was choosing at the time. I love that when creating something new there is no right or wrong - just doing and imagination.  I attached some different colors of cording to make them a necklace and voila.  Here are some that I'd like to show you. 

I love how this one looks like the little yellow bird and flowers on the left are in front of a forest made from lace. 

Here are more I'd like to share. These next few seem especially Spring-like and Summer-like to me. 

You can never go wrong with polka dots and flowers, right??

I love that not only are these keys being reused and not gone to waste in the garbage, but I think they make some really funky and unique jewelry! It is my hope and plan to have my own Etsy store up and running next month. I will keep you posted on details when things are all set up.

Romance Necklace

Happy Wednesday my Friends! 

I didn't get to pop in yesterday, but I hope you all had a lovely Valentine's Day. It was a nice one here filled with lovely cards and goodies from my Hubby and Kiddos. I made a little dinner and Hubby, Annie & I snuggled in for some tv time and cherry dessert that I had made. My Aaron took his girlfriend out for a treat - and bought her roses and a teddy bear. ::sigh:: My teenager is growing up too fast!  

In this month of all things romance - flowers, hearts, jewelry.... I thought I would share the latest "scrapbook necklace" I've made. I took a mixture of scrapbook materials and jewelry materials and created a one of a kind piece! It's another part of my scrapbooking hobby addiction I guess. ;) 

 I have always loved vintage or vintage inspired jewelry. I think I'm just a hopeless romantic at heart.

I have especially always loved clothing and jewelry from the Victorian period all the way through the 1930's to 40's. I loved the show Downton Abbey as much for the costumes and jewelry as the story lines!

Here I took some vintage looking floral paper and cut out an oval the correct size to fit on my jewelry base. I adhered it withe some jewelry glue.  I then found a brad I had that fit the jewelry look I was going for. I broke off the backing of the brad, as I didn't want the pearl bulging out -and glued that on as well. 

I didn't have a chain dainty or small enough so I just added a pretty ribbon for now. 

I usually like to make a homemade card to match the necklace I made, but I didn't get to that yet for this one. I'm working on plans for my Etsy store that I hope to open by the Spring. It will include items like this, as well as other paper crafting things. Semi-paper crafted jewelry, some as sets with matching cards for gift giving. As well as, special ready made scrapbook albums and small mixed media canvases. An example being an album  where you could keep heirloom recipes to treasure or give as gifts. I'll be sharing more over time.

I think this one looks particularly pretty on a soft pink roses sweater I like to wear. 

Here are a few photos of other necklaces I have made in the past. Next up, I'm working on a bracelet and some earrings. I will probably dabble in some more modern pieces over time as well.

Scrapbook Necklace Part 2

I was busy using up some more of my scraps the other day and completed another necklace and card that I thought I would share with you today. I have started a new project that I'm SO excited about and I can't wait to share with you soon! So I'll take a break from my scraps for a while now and I'm going to focus on the new project (as well as my own family album catch up). Also, I'll be going to a scrapbook retreat day soon with my Mom and we're going to work on her heritage album - so lots of scrapping fun continuing in this lovely frosty month of January!!

Now on to the project I'm sharing today:

This necklace was made on a round metal necklace form I had and I used some old scrapbook paper, some cording around the edge and a pom pom. Unlike the more traditional soft romantic one I made prior, this one has brighter colors and a more modern feel to it.

 

I used another paper from the same collection for the card and more of the cording and pom poms. Just another fun side project like the one I had done prior.  Here are a few photos of the other one just for comparison:

Quite a difference in the look and "feel" of each them, huh? It's so fun to use up my old scraps in a different way and see whatever creative style moves me at the time. I've definitely been having fun working on them and love sharing them with you!
