Happy Homemaker Monday (on a Wednesday)

Hello Friends!
Sorry i'm off my Monday game again, but we were gone for a family reunion on my Dad's side this time. We didn't get back until last night but thought I'd share some of the fun before I come visit all of you.

I have several relatives in Green Bay and it was decided to have a gathering in Door County WI - very close to Green Bay. It's so beautiful there and it's right on Lake Michigan. I hadn't been there in years. Adam and I went in the past during the Fall when we went to a Packers game, and it was so charming then. It was fun to see it in the summer this time. Several of my Dad's siblings rented a big air b&b right on the beach. And my Dad, Annie and I (my step Mom couldn't make this visit due to things she needed to do on her side of the family) rented our own smaller air b&b cabin on the same lakeside not far from the bigger house. Some other relatives did the same - getting their own smaller rental nearby. We did all the gatherings at the big house, but we slept and shared breakfasts in the big cabin just the 3 of us. My Aaron and his gf couldn't make this trip either. But they watched Ruby for me which was wonderful! 💗

We got in lots of visiting and game time with relatives. Ate great food, caught up, swam and had so much fun! Annie & I golfed with my Dad one of the days. Another day just Annie and I broke away for several hours and went shopping at some of the cutest boutiques in a town nearby. Lots of peaceful R & R by the water as well. It was summer perfect. ☀️

THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS:

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE THIS MORNING

fried egg on toast, fruit, iced coffee

ON MY TO DO LIST:

Playing catch up from the trip - laundry, unpacking, putting things away, cleaning, catching up on calls & emails. Will run errands this week, deal with Annie's hockey, appointments. And I start back to hospice work this week. I'm excited to get back to helping in those ways! 🙏

AS I LOOK AROUND THE HOUSE

Stuff still kind of all over and need to change my sheets and other cleaning jobs yet.  Thankfully it's overcast today and cooler and it feels good to just be getting some things done around home. Ruby won't leave my side - I think I was missed 😉

ON THE MENU THIS WEEK:

Since it's mainly Annie and I, there is so much less formal cooking going on to really share a weekly menu right now. So instead I will try to share a recipe here each week.

I don't have a specific recipe to share but one of our favorite simple breakfast for dinner kind of meals is to make smoothie bowls. Especially nice for hot summer days to have a light dinner. We blend frozen berries of choice with some greek yogurt, honey, cinnamon, sometimes protein powder or chia seeds, and a splash of almond milk. We then pour it into bowls and top with pretty rows of whole pieces of fruit/berries, granola and toasted coconut. So yummy! 😋 If you look up smoothie bowls on pinterest you can find all kinds of ideas

TO RELAX THIS WEEK I WILL:

sit out on the deck and do devotional and journal time, read, watch fun shows with Annie, maybe lunch with a gf

TIPS OR SOMETHING TO SHARE:

FROM THE CAMERA:

Our little cabin was very sweet. It had more of a rocky shore and someone prior had even made the cute rock tower down on the beach. It had a really nice fire pit area right above the water too

The bigger lake home was also up above the lake, and it had a sandier shore. It was big (had 5 bedrooms I think) and was open with lots of nice areas to gather for games etc.

Two very special Uncles getting ready to whip up a "waffle extravaganza" as they put it. Lol My Uncle Don is mentally challenged and so very special to all of us. My Uncle "Fr. Bob" is a retired Catholic priest.

Annie and my Dad getting the carts sorted

golf time!

Golf time and shopping were both so much fun! There were gorgeous hollyhocks everywhere.  They are known for lots of cherry things in Door County and have orchards and wineries. We picked up some really fun cherry goodies (including wine 😉 ) to contribute to the big house and to bring back for Aaron & Helaina (his gf). If you ever get a chance, I highly recommend visiting Door county area.

PRAYER LIST:

Praying for peace, unity and healing for our world and our earth. For a complete end to the virus. For an Uncle with cancer and his upcoming surgery. For my FIL recovering from a nasty fall and needing surgery. For a friend's Mom. For my own special intentions and those of yours that I have read my friends. 🙏

  1. Carrie! What a fun weekend you had. The photos are so pretty. Bob and I visited Door County a few years ago and really enjoyed ourselves.
That pool noodle idea is a really good one. That might even work in my facility when we have people fall out of bed. :)

  2. Your family gatherings are always very special Carrie. Lovely to meet your two special uncles, and they look like great fun there making the waffles. It looks like a beautiful area to holiday. Lakeside holidays are not something we enjoy here in our dry country! But we do have great beaches by the sea. Have a great week. xx

  3. Seems like you had a wonderful weekend with family! The pictures tell all.
I had a FB add this week for end-of life Doula and it made me think of you. I didn't even know they existed before you taught us about them.
Have a great rest of the week

  4. Looks like you had such a great time. I tried growing hollyhocks this year without success so I really enjoyed your pictures of them. I'll have to rethink where I plant them for next year if I try again. Hope you've had a great week and are enjoying a fantastic weekend!
