Happy Homemaker Monday

Happy Monday My Friends!

I can't believe how fast the time has flown by and we're here in our bright shiny New Year 2016 and my kiddos have gone back to school today. That means back to a normal grind and getting back on track! I feel like I've had a nice break and got lots of quality time as a family. We had several gatherings with friends and family over the past couple of weeks. We've also seen some movies, played games, played in the snow and ate way more naughty things than we should. All the things that a nice holiday break should have in it! But I am truly ready to get back to real life now. I, like most folks, resolve to eat healthier and move more in this New Year. I have not felt as healthy lately, and I know what I need to do to make it better. I have been praying about it and doing my devotional time - and I read recently 'This is the Way. Walk in It'  - and I am adopting that as my motto for 2016!!

THE WEATHER OUTSIDE IS:

Bright and sunny today. Colder though and some chilly breezes. It was only in the teens this AM - but reaching closer to low 20's now.

ON THE BREAKFAST PLATE THIS MORNING:

Toast with honey & cinnamon and some hot tea.

AS I LOOK OUTSIDE MY WINDOW:

I see bright blue sky and the sun shining away. Small piles of snow all around. Such a pretty contrast of colors and brightness with the dark evergreen trees against a bright blue sky and the bright white (sometimes almost blinding) snow reflecting it all.

RIGHT NOW I AM:

BAck from an appointment this AM, right after getting my daughter to school. So I am getting to this late.  Making a plan for the week and trying to keep schedules and appointments straight. My son has several hockey things this week. We have charter coming to fix a router issue one day. We also have someone coming to look at our fireplace and chimney this week, as we're going to finally put a new insert in so it will work now - and be something we can flip on with a click of a remote! ;)

AS I LOOK AROUND THE HOUSE:

Pretty tidy. We celebrated a belated Christmas with some family friends of ours that were sick over the holidays - so we finally made it happen last night.  They came over and we had pizzas and exchanged some gifts and then watched the Packer/Viking game.  Great fun!! So just the usual laundry and a few dishes to load.

ON TODAY'S TO DO LIST:

My MIL will be here soon so I will be doing caregiving for her this afternoon. I don't feel super great, so we'll probably hang out. WAtch a show, visit and maybe do some coloring or crafting.

CURRENTLY READING:

I've gone back to the Mistletoe Inn series and going to finish them up. Also, all the fun new year magazine issues coming up lately, so reading them as well.

ON THE TV TODAY:

I have some cooking shows taped and maybe a movie or 2.

ON THE MENU THIS WEEK:

MONDAY: Leftovers and salad

TUESDAY: chicken and vegetable soup with elbow macaroni

WEDNESDAY: light chicken salad

THURSDAY: BBQ ribs, corn on the cob & orange pecan coleslaw

FRIDAY:maybe out - not sure?

WHAT I AM CREATING AT THE MOMENT:

Nothing at the moment, but ideas in the works. Going to get back to scrapbooking too!

NEW RECIPE I WANT TO TRY THIS WEEK:

The macaroni veggie soup and orange pecan coleslaw will be new recipes

TIP OF THE WEEK:

I think journaling can be so helpful in many areas of life. I try to read my devotional every day and I will often journal if I feel the desire to do so.  I have been praying and journaling recently about the healthier path I want to take this year, and it really helps me when I see my thoughts in black and white. It's somewhere where I can get truly personal with myself. I know it sounds weird, but if you tried it I think you'd see how it can work.

FROM THE CAMERA:

This photo I found on pinterest looks SO much like my Ruby did as a puppy. I'm posting this because I'm excited as my Mom has decided to get her own miniature golden doodle puppy this year! She recently reserved one, for a litter that will come this Spring, from the same place where we got Ruby!! Ruby will have a regular buddy to play with, and my Mom will have a buddy to keep her company every day. Annie and I are especially excited for my Mom and can't wait! Lol

PRAYER, INSPIRATIONAL QUOTE OR DEVOTIONAL:

I'm linking with Sandra from Diary of a SAHM for Happy Homemaker Monday.

  5. Oh Carrie, that puppy is precious! I think I've actually pinned that one in the past. That's wonderful that Ruby will have a buddy now.

I hope whatever it is that's been bothering you physically isn't serious. Sometimes small changes are all that's needed, and let's face it, the big ones are hard to maintain and don't typically work long term. I know it's hard to have only healthy foods in the house with kids sometimes, but moderation is key.

We've had iffy Internet while in Florida, so forgive me if I don't comment as much as I had been doing. Sometimes I comment and it doesn't go through. Arrghhhhh!

Anyway, happy new year to you sweet lady, and may 2016 bring you only good things!

  8. A great motto to follow and live by! Sounds like you've had a really nice holiday. I like reading these homemaker posts ... like having a quick chat on the phone. I hope you had a nice day with your MIL and that you feel better. I kept feeling off yesterday, but I think it was some too rich food I ate early in the day. Stuff like that affects me more as I get older. How nice that your mom is getting a new dog! I keep saying our dog is the last one I'll own, but my kids don't believe me. I love the companionship, but sometimes I get tired of taking care of pets (dog, rabbit, fish). He does get me out walking though! Happy Monday :)

    1. Thanks Wendy!! I know what you mean about the holidays catching up with you. Lol

I've been having some recent health concerns, but hopefully resolved soon.

I love the companionship & love from pets, but very true about the work. I hope having her own puppy will get my Mom walking more too.
Blessings to you dear Friend! Love our time in blog land together too. ;)

  9. Your weather sounds like ours though we haven't seen any snow yet. :( Just last week it was in the 40's and 50's but apparently the weather got the memo yesterday that it's January! As much as I hate the cold, I like when the weather feels the way it should.
I love your journaling tip. I should journal more often - there is something so therapeutic about the physical act of writing and getting my thoughts down on paper helps me work through the millions of emotions going on inside me!
Your Christmas festivities sound lovely but, I agree, it's nice getting back to the usual routine.
A new puppy is ALWAYS exciting! How fun for all of you!
    Orange pecan coleslaw sounds intriguing!
    Have a great week!

    1. Thanks Laura!

I know what you mean about the weather. Although some really freezing cold could be headed our way - which I would not enjoy. Lol!

I do love journaling - and when I'm being good about it, I often get great benefits from it. ;)

We're very excited about new puppy in the future! I'm sure I'll be sharing lots of photos this summer.

The recipe for that coleslaw sounds really good. Stay tuned! ;)
      Blessings my dear! Xoxo

  10. A very inspirational quote, and one to take note of. I like to read your organised life, and will be interested in your 'healthier life' plan. I need to do the same myself, having become careless of my organic eating plans. This year I hope to be discharged by my cancer specialist - must toe the line! Happy New Year.

    1. Thanks Trish! I know we always start with the best of intentions each year, but this IS the year for me to improve how I take care of myself! :) I will keep you posted. And prayers and great cheerleading going on over here for you to be able to get rid of the cancer specialist!!! Blessings xo

  11. Oh, I definitely need a Ruby in my life!! What a darling pup that is! I think you've chosen a great motto for 2016. It's perfect. I'm ready also to get back on track after eating too many naughty things. This morning I have a bacon headache. I almost never eat it, but it was in leftover clam chowder I'd frozen after Christmas... And it was delicious, but not worth the bacon headache. :-( Have a wonderful New Year.

Hope the bacon headache is better and cheerleading us both to be back on track!! Rah rah - go us!! xoxo

  12. I am all for better health!! Finally feeling like myself again, and getting caught up on all that fell by the wayside.

I’d like to read the other Mistletoe Inn books, maybe I’ll do a Christmas in July and read them, LOL.

I used to journal, but haven’t in awhile, need to get back at it. It definitely helps. I like to actually hand write mine, but I have also typed them up in a word doc as well.

OMG that photo!! Like my daughter and I would say…Oh da puppy!! Be sure to post pics of your mom’s new buddy!!

That quote is you!! You are that somebody!! Your comments and encouragement to me always makes me feel like somebody!! :)

We got another year in front of us Care Bear…looking for great things this year, more of your fabulous recipes, and spending time with you in Blogland!!

That puppy is precious. I'm sure your mom will love hers! I'm a golden retriever mom myself and there is no better breed than one that begins with golden!
